SHADOW MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT LINDSAY TANNER MR

FEDERAL MEMBER FOR MELBOURNE

Vaile Backs Down - But for How Long?

The Shadow Minister for Transport, Mr Lindsay Tanner, today welcomed the Government's backdown on massive charge increases for flying training operators.

“The Minister allowed Airservices to impose these fee increases and now he has panicked. Aviation training schools all around Australia are threatened with extinction, and all he is offering is a temporary reprieve.

“There has been no movement on the 30% terminal navigation charge increases at a range of regional airports that took effect today. This is again further evidence of the Howard Government's total disregard for

the provision of transport services in regional Australia.

“ Irrespective of what the outcomes of Mr Voile’s processes are, a. Beazley Labor Government will direct Airservices Australia to ensure that regional aviation services and flight training operators do not face

these substantial increases in charges," Mr Tanner said today.
