SH ADO W MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT

LINDSAY TANNER MR

FEDERAL MEMBER FOR MELBOURNE

Documents Should Be Released

Federal Shadow Minister for Transport Lindsay Tanner today called on Fynwest Pty Ltd Director Andrew Harris to release all documents he holds regarding the Dubai Industrial Mercenaries scandal.

“If these documents reveal Federal Government involvement in the Dubai affair it is in the public interest that they be disclosed.

“It is obvious that the Dubai operation, the NFF exercise at Webb Dock, and the recent mass sackings by Patricks Stevedoring are all part of the same picture. The Federal Government and in particular Peter Reith, have been

deeply involved in the beginning.

“When the Dubai affair was first exposed, Mr Reith was very careful to avoid questions about the involvement of his staff. John Howard twice refused to answer questions about whether any Government money was involved.

“These documents may provide some explanation. I call on Mr Harris to release them in the public interest.”

30th April 1998.
