Mr Rod Grose will act as Chief Executive of the National Capital Authority from Monday, following the retirement o f Mr Michael Ratcliffe from the Authority, the Territories Minister Alex Somlyay announced today.

A civil engineer, Mr Grose has extensive experience in both the Commonwealth and ACT Governments. He has been with the Authority in management positions since 1993, overseeing the Authority's consultancy practice and administering capital works, property management and corporate services. Previously he was with the ACT Planning Authority.

"The Authority will continue its work under the leadership o f Mr Grose while a recruitment process is carried out to fill the position o f Chief Executive," Mr Somlyay said.

He said the Government had proven its strong commitment to the National Capital through the work o f the National Capital Authority, and this would continue.

"A new $20 million program was introduced last year to restore national assets in the capital and funding had provided for major infrastructure works at Russell and upgrading o f public areas in the Parliamentary Triangle and Lake Burley Griffin. "Much o f this work has resulted in jobs for Canberrans and improved facilities for visitors and locals to enjoy," Mr Somlyay said.

"This is in addition to the Authority's roles in managing National Land, including diplomatic areas, providing expert planning services and marketing the National Capital. The latter role has been expanded over the past year to include greater support for events and closer cooperation with the Canberra tourism sector," he said.

"Mr Ratcliffe and his family have decided to return to Melbourne, and I take this opportunity to thank him for his contribution to the Authority during his time as Chief Executive," Mr Somlyay said.
