Rockhampton and Mackay to see World Cup

Residents of the Rockhampton and Mackey areas will be able to see the SBS Television coverage of the World Cup after all. ■

The Head of SBS Television. Peter Cavanagh, announced today that agreement had been reached for local commercial television operator, TEN Queensland, to take SBS’s coverage of the World Cup from France In full from the commencement of Round 2 of the tournament.

"That means the people of Rockhampton and Mackay -and other major centres such as Gladstone - will be able to see live coverage of the final sixteen matches of the World Cup", Mr. Cavanagh said.

“I know many people In the region have been extremely disappointed that they haven’t been able to see the SBS Television coverage of the biggest sporting event ever staged on the planet. .

"SBS Is delighted that TEN Queensland has now accepted our offer to show live coverage of the final sixteen matches of the tournament, starting at midnight on Saturday, June 27. The coverage will include all Round 2 play-offs, the quarter finals, semi-finals, 3rd Vs 4th playoff-and of the course the culmination of France '98, the World Cup Final

on July 13,

“The World Cup Is sudden-death from the commencement of Round 2, so viewers In Rockhampton and Mackay will be joining the SBS coverage at the most thrilling stage of the tournament", Mr. Cavanagh Said.

TEN Queensland have agreed to Include the SBS official broadcast sponsors in all televised matches.

Mr. Cavanagh also announced today that the satellite television service, Sky Channel, would be replaying the SBS Television World Cup highlights program each night at 11.00pm.

"The SBS highlights program featuring Les Murray, Johnny Warren and Tracey Holmes will enable people living In some of Australia's most remote communities to see the best of each day's World Cup action", Mr. Cavanagh said.
