Telstra and Computershare launch Interactive Voice Response - Service for Share Information

Telstra and Computersharc. Australia's leading provider oflcchnology solutions and services to the Securities Jndustry. drew on this experience to develop Telepower Sharelnfo, a new telephone based ill~ for publicly listed companies. Telstra's General Manager for Multimedia Confcrencing Services, Russell Stuart, said that with Tekpowt!r Share Info. shMe infonnation could be accessed by large numbers of shareholders at the same time.
"During the early days of the Telstra float the service communicated with over 100,000 customers a day and ongoing usage has remained high 'Nith over 500,000 calJs in the last few months") he sauL
"'This new automated system has the capacity to handle large numbers of share enquiries simultaneously, thereby preventing call bottlenecks", Mr Stuart said. "It can also be used to answer routine enquiries which do not require direct operator contact, leaviug operators free to handle more complex queries" .
Chris Morris, Managing Director of Computershare said the agreement enabled the two companies to bring their respective skills together to create innovative services which would benefit mutual clients .
The service can be used to provide a variety of infurmation for shareholders -from allocation of shares in a float situation, through to share balances ". share value, dividend and franking details, and important dates in the company calendar.
Mr Stuart said Telepower ShareInfo would help companies keep shareholders infomloo. on an ongoing, 24 hoor a day, 365 days a year basis.
The agreement between Telstra and CQmputersbate fur Telepower Sh3re1nfo was signed recently. Under the temlS of the partnership, Compurcnhare, through its ~tly fonned company, Corporate Regist!)' Services, pTOvides shareholder infonnation from an extensive computer database. Teistra., the largest telecommwticatiom company in Australia, provides the line capacity and Interactive Voice Response platform to handle large numbers of caller enquiries simuitanoously.
The service will initiaUy be concentrated in the domestic markets in Australi.,\ and New Zealand but with C.o1nputersbare 's share registry in the United Kingdom (created out oftbe acquisition of die RDya\ Bank of Scotland Registrars) and as a technology solutions and service provider. it is cnvisagoo that there will be gn:at potential for added growth in the U.K. securities market for the Sharelnfo service . Early custom~ include AMP, NSW TAB and Telstra.
