Visiting Medical Officers’ Dispute - Australian Capital Territory

"The Australian Association of Surgeons is most concerned at the situation developing in the ACT where all visiting medical officer contracts expired on 31 May 1998”, the President of the Association, Mr Peter Woodruff, said today.

It is understood that a large proportion of visiting medical officers have not signed the new contracts being offered, presumably because the terms are unacceptable.

The ACT Department of Health and Canberra Hospital have advertised consultant positions in both urology and orthopaedics. It is important that those who may consider applying for such positions are aware there is a medical industrial dispute in the ACT.

“The Chairman of the ACT State Committee of this Association, Mr Peter Hughes, (Telephone: (02) 6282 3066, Mobile: 0412 628 036, Facsimile: (02) 6282 3356), should be contacted for further information, by any surgeon or surgical registrar thinking of applying for a position in the ACT”, Mr Woodruff concluded.
