Tax office improves online services

The second stage towards delivering government services online will be launched today as part of the ‘Business Channel’ alliance between the Victorian Government and the Australian Taxation Office.

Tax Commissioner. Michael Curmody, said that the Tax Office component of the Victoria 21 Business Channel hod been updated to provide further valuable assistance to businesses.

‘'The Business Channel offers businesses the opportunity to calculate tax and HEC.S contributions using thc_Tnx Instalment Deduction Calculator," Michael Carmody said.

"Simply by accessing the ATO site, businesses can calculate payroll and PAYE tax for their workforce.

“The large range of tax information available on the site, now also includes information in relation to upcoming business seminars.

“Businesses can now access details on the seminars and can register directly from the site." he said.

The Business Channel operates with a whole of government approach and offers a single point of entry to information from government agencies to assist businesses. The iniative is apart of a commitment by the Victorian Government to have all Commonwealth, State and Local Government agencies online

by the end of 2001. '

“Since the introduction of the Business Channel in February, the Australian Taxation Office is the only Federal Government Agency to have joined the initiative,'’ Mr Carmody said.

“The collaborative approach adopted by the Tux Office, reflects our commitment to providing our services within easy electronic reach of the business community.

“We will be continually developing the site over the next few months to include more integrated business services such as Commonwealth Group Employer registrations, startup transactions and Commonwealth Tax File Number Registrations,” he said.
