AUSTRALIA REITERATES ITS STRONG CONDEMNATION OF TERRORISM

I reiterate Australia's strong condemnation of terrorism in whatever form it takes and wherever it occurs around the world.

When I met Iran's Foreign Minister, Dr Kamal Kharazi, in New York on 9 June, he drew my attention to the bombing on 3 June of a courthouse in Tehran, which killed three and injured forty. An Iranian armed opposition group (the Mojahadin-e-Khalq, or MKO) claimed responsibility for the bombing.

I condemn this and other acts of terrorism including the recent terrorist bombing of a passenger train in Pakistan, by as yet unknown perpetrators, which caused the loss of some twenty-six lives.

I extend my sympathy to the families of the innocent victims of these attacks.
