APC Chief Executive, Mr Scott Derwin, said the ASC made it clear at a meeting in Canberra today that the Olympic Athlete Program's (OAP) $25 million budget for 1998-98 is fully committed and no extra funds will be available.

The APC has been advised that it will received $1 million in OAP funding, which is 4% of the total $25 million budget.

However, this funding is $1.5 million short of the APC's 1998-99 sports propam budget and that massive cutbacks, which will undermine Australia’s medal chances at the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games, have been foreshadowed if additional funding is not forthcoming

“This meeting must take place as quickly as possible and the APC must be given a firm indication from Mr Thomson by the end of the month If addition funding is forthcoming. If there isn 't a realistic resolution to this funding crisis from the Federal Government by the end of this month, the APC will have no alternative than to initiate almost $1 million in cutbacks to the PPP." he added.

Mr Derwin said the APC and the ASC will meet again within the next fortnight to discuss the APC’s on-going budget. .
