Consular Travel Advice - Vanuatu

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade advises that following recent civil unrest in Port Vila, a state of emergency has been declared in Vanuatu. Australians travelling to Vanuatu should be aware of the potential for further disturbances and should exercise particular care and maintain a high level of personal security awareness. Special care should be taken around Port Vila and Luganville and large gatherings or demonstrations should be avoided.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade does not consider it necessary that Australians defer travel. However, intending visitors should keep themselves informed of developments.

The Australian High Commission in KPMG House, Port Vila, can be contacted for further information on telephone (678) 22777 or facsimile (678) 23948. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra can also be contacted on (02) 626 1111.

NB: While every care has been taken in preparing this Travel Advice, neither the Australian Government nor its agents or employees including any member o f Australia’s consular staff abroad, can accept liability for injury, loss or damage arising in respect o f any statement contained herein.
