On 1 October 1998, in accordance with Clause 29 of the Charter of Budget Honesty, the Leader of the Opposition requested that the following publicly announced ALP policies be costed by the Department of Finance and Administration.

The Department of Finance and Administration will examine the request in accordance with the Guidelines for Costing Election Commitments under the Charter of Budget Honesty, and will issue a press release tomorrow afternoon including as many costings as possible. The Department of the Treasury will be consulted as necessary.
