Opposition welcomes Mansfield as Telstra director

The Federal Opposition today welcomed the announcement by Telstra that Bob Mansfield would take a position as Director on the Telstra Board to replace Michael Codd.

Shadow Minister for Communications, Stephen Smith, said "Labor welcomes the appointment of Bob Mansfield to the Telstra Corporation Board and his selection as heir-apparent to the position of Chairman of the Board after the term of David Hoare expires".

"Labor acknowledges Michael Codd's public service contribution and commitment to telecommunications in Australia, and we commend his performance during his term as a Director of Telstra", Mr Smith said.

"Labor also pays tribute to the long-standing contribution to Australia's telecommunications industry made by David Hoare in his various roles, firstly as Chairman of the Australian Overseas Telecommunications Corporation, then in his capacity as Director o f Telecom and subsequently Telstra", he said.

"We congratulate Mr Mansfield on his appointment, and wish him every success in his future role as Chairman o f the Telstra Board", Mr Smith said.
