MEDIA RELEASE THE HON BRUCE SCOTT, MR

MINISTER FOR VETERANS' AFFAIRS MINISTER ASSISTING MINISTER FOR DEFENCE

DISCIPLINARY AND PERSONNEL PRACTICES WORKING

The Minister Assisting the Minister for Defence, Bruce Scott, said today’s announcement by the Navy of its response to harassment allegations demonstrates that Defence’s disciplinary and personnel practices are working.

“The announcement by Acting Deputy Chief of the Navy, Commodore O’Hara, of the results of an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment against a naval officer demonstrates that the disciplinary and personnel practices are working,” Mr Scott said.

“While I do not intend to comment on the detail of the individual allegations, I commend the Navy for its prompt investigation and action on this matter.

“This sends a very clear message to Defence personnel and the public that Defence is committed to eliminating harassment in the Forces.

“It also demonstrates that Defence's support networks and processes for dealing with harassment are working,” Mr Scott said.
