NEW CEO FOR FARE

The Federation of Australian fRadio/ Broadcasters (FARB) has announced the appointment of David Bacon as ttSmew Chief Executive.

FARB Chairman, Gary Roberts, said Mr Bacon was joining FARB after a successful international business and media career.

Mr Bacon’s early working life was spent in commercial radic as a journalist in Sydney, Canberra and regional NSW. He covered federal politics in the Canberra press gallery and in the early 1980’s served as Private Secretary to a Federal Government minister and later as Assistant Director o f Public Relations in a Commonwealth Government department.

Mr Bacon was Executive Officer in an industry association before joining one of Australia’s largest consumer goods companies, AMATIL, in the late 1980's. He went to the UK in 1989 to head the global communications effort of the world’s second largest tobacco manufacturer and marketer, British American Tobacco.

Mr Roberts said Mr Bacon's extensive experience in the media, government and international business made him an ideal choice to implement the initiatives recommended following a complete review of the association's operations by management consultants, KPMG. Mr Bacon will commence with FARB next Monday, 27 September.

FARB is the industry association representing 218 of Australia’s commercial radio stations.
