PASTORAL INDUSTRY WAGE INCREASE ON HOLD f e d e r a t i o n . A U S T R A L I A

The National Farmers* Federation today confirmed that the Australian Workers ‘ Union had delayed the formal signing of the pastoral Industry ‘s three-year industrial agreement.

NFF's Industrial Relations Director,' Richard Calver, said that the AWU called yesterday for changes to the Pastoral Industry Award, before It signed the industry Deed of Agreement, which underpins the Award.

“The AWU wants to change the Award, which was ratified by the Industrial Relations Commission on the 30ώ of June last year, before it will formtilyrdommit to the pastoral industry agreement," Mr Calver said. '

“Without confirmation of the continuation of the agreement, any payments due on the 1“ of July this year will not be made," he said. ■

“The AWU has had the drafj Deed in its possession for six months. It is extraordinary that it has introduced the proposals Tor change at the eleventh hour”.

“We are hopeful that the agreement can be salvaged. We have been told by the AWU that they will make a decision about its future very soon", Mr Calver said. m

“In the meantime, their members are denied a wage Increase,*’ he said.
