The Australian Private jjospitals'- Association (APHA) today welcomed the ' introduction of HealthBonus, an innovative new insurance product providing expanded benefits and greater value to consumers of private health care.

APHA Executive Director, Mr Ian Chalmers, said the launch of HealthBonus was an excellent example of how the private health sector is rising to the challenge of „„ producing new, value-added products.

“HealthBonus has clearly demonstrated that the private health industry is not resting on its laurels.

"A common consumer complaint about private health insurance is that there is no reward for being a long term member who makes few or no claims. HealthBonus addresses this concern by enabling health fund members to build a pool of savings based on a proportion of their premiums.

“HealthBonus members will have the dual benefits of being covered for high quality health care in a private hospital when they need it, as well as building a savings nest-egg if they make few or no claims.

“We expect that value-added health insurance products like HealthBonus will further boost consumer confidence in private health care.

“This means both the public and private hospital systems will be able to operate more effectively, for the benefit of all Australians.
