PM launches Education Counter Revolution

The Gillard Government’s abolition of the Education Tax Refund in favour of a “Schoolkids Bonus” which doesn’t have to be used for education expenses will impact negatively on education in regional Australia, according to Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Education, Senator Fiona Nash.

“Labor has abandoned a system which directly rewarded parents for investing in their children’s education in favour of an attempted carbon tax bribe aimed at a key block of swinging voters, namely young families,” Senator Nash said.

“This amounts to an education counter revolution from a Prime Minister who used to claim a passion for learning so young people could get better jobs, but the only job Ms Gillard cares about these days is her own.”

“School children from regional Australia are already disadvantaged in terms of education outcomes and removing the cash incentive for parents to invest in their children’s schooling needs will only make matters worse.”

Senator Nash said the new program, like so many others, had also been engineered to cook the books.

“The refund will be paid out before the end of this financial year to protect Labor’s artificial Budget surplus next financial year,” Senator Nash concluded.
