ONE BASIC FACT ON THE NBN - IT’S WORTH $1 TRILLION TO THE AUSTRALIAN ECONOMY

INDEPENDENT Lyne MP Rob Oakeshott is encouraging Mid-North Coast residents wanting the facts on high speed broadband to attend an NBN seminar in Coffs Harbour tomorrow ((June 21)).

The information event will feature some of the country’s leading voices in high speed broadband infrastructure, including the head of Product Development and Industry Relations for NBN Co, Jim Hassell, Channel 7’s technology guru Peter Blasina, Telehealth manager of rthe Mid-North Coast and Northern NSW local health district Sandra Haynes, Publicani director Dr Tim Williams and the direct of Australian Centre for Broadband Innovation, Col Griffith.

More than 30 exhibitors will showcase the latest in video conferencing, home entertainment, eHealth, online education and much more at C.ex Coffs Harbour.

Meanwhile, Mr Oakeshott has described Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker’s recent comments in the Coffs Advocate on the NBN as misleading, in particular his statement that Mr Oakeshott blocked a cost/benefit analysis of the NBN.

“I voted in parliament with Mr Malcolm Turnbull in support of this issue, and Mr Hartsuyker should have known this,” Mr Oakeshott said.

“While this fact may not suit his narrative, it is on the parliamentary record for all to see.

“As for the rest of his commentary on the NBN, Mr Hartsuyker can access, via email, the recent IBM report into the value of investment in better ICT for Australia.

“It identifies faster broadband has the potential to generate $1 trillion in revenue for the country by 2050.

“I look forward to Mr Hartsuyker’s arguments against this basic fact,” Mr Oakeshott said.
