THERE’S NOTHING LIKE TOURISM AUSTRALIA!

Australian Shadow Minister for Tourism Bob Baldwin has congratulated Tourism Australia for its implied world number one performance ranking in FutureBrand’s “National Brand Survey” [1].

In the face of a diminishing agency budget, a soaring Australian dollar, and over 10 new tourism taxes and charges announced this year, Tourism Australia’s reputation as a brand advocate for Australia is unsurpassed:

“Australia remains the number one country brand in the world for Advocacy.” (FutureBrand National Brand Survey 2012-13, p88)

“Tourism Australia Chairman Geoff Dixon, and CEO Andrew McEvoy should take pride in this result. In particular, after such a challenging year in policy and budgetary terms, recognition as world leader in in advocacy is the strongest possible endorsement of Tourism Australia’s core function,” Mr Baldwin said.

“Australia’s declining price competitiveness, diminishing value proposition, and lack of coordination across portfolios are the government’s failings. It is fair to say that Labor has been shielded by Tourism Australia’s professionalism and passion for its mission.

“Australia is a great country that is sadly let down by bad government,” Mr Baldwin said.

Mr Baldwin also paid tribute to Head of Corporate Affairs Simon Westaway who has announced his departure from Tourism Australia after 13 years’ service, overseeing Government, Media, Stakeholder and Strategy functions in the tourism and travel sector.

“Simon will be missed, but leaves behind a strong, high performing team who enjoy the confidence of the Coalition parties,” Mr Baldwin said.

Mr Baldwin also commended the Keep Australia Beautiful “Clean Beaches Awards” campaign, with today’s announcement that Australian beaches are also world’s best.

“Keep Australia Beautiful CEO Peter McLean is a passionate and practical campaigner for the environment. This action group’s advocacy, partnership focus, and publicity campaign work does make a difference to littering behaviour.

“KAB deserves our thanks for keeping Australian beaches looking their best,” Mr Baldwin said.
