More evidence now is the worst time for the carbon tax

The latest NAB Quarterly Business Survey confirms that now is the worst possible time to introduce the world’s biggest carbon tax, according to the Coalition.

Shadow Small Business Minister Bruce Billson said the NAB report found that “business confidence deteriorated in the quarter to well-below the long-run average.”

“The report confirms that the world’s largest carbon tax is making difficult trading conditions even worse,” Mr Billson said.

“Small businesses are grappling with cost conscious consumers and higher power prices because of the carbon tax.

“Every hairdresser, café, newsagency, pie shop, dry cleaner and toy shop in the country is feeling the pain of the current economic climate made worse by the carbon tax.

“It’s concerning that business confidence is so low on the back of reports from earlier in the year that found small business start-ups had fallen by 95 per cent while the number going bankrupt jumped by 48 per cent.

“The Gillard Government has got to understand that the carbon tax is a bad tax doing great harm to our economy.”

Mr Billson said a Coalition Government would repeal the carbon tax to make the Australian economy and small business stronger.
