Think about a local for Australian of the Year Awards

Each year our nation celebrates the achievement and contributions of eminent Australians through the Australian of the Year Awards. These are people who inspire us with their achievements and challenge us to make our own contribution to creating a better Australia.

Federal Member for Murray, Dr Sharman Stone encourages locals to think about people in the region who fit one of the four award categories:

Australian of the Year Senior Australian of the Year (60 years and over) Young Australian of the Year (16 to 30 years) Australia’s Local Hero

The prestigious Australian of the Year Awards is a program of the National Australia Day Council, presented in partnership with the state and territory Australia Day organisations. It culminates in the announcement of the national award recipients on Australia Day Eve on the lawns of Parliament House, Canberra.

Anyone can nominate someone, including individuals on behalf of a group or an organisation.

Nominations can be made online at, or via forms which are available at branches of the Commonwealth Bank, or by calling 1300 655 193.

“Alternatively, you can contact my office on 5821 5371, or call in to 426 Wyndham Street Shepparton and pick up a form” Sharman Stone said.

Nominations close midnight Friday August 31.

“Think of people who have demonstrated excellence in their field, made a contribution to the local community and the nation, and who is being an inspirational role model” Dr Stone said. “Let’s put some outstanding locals forward for these outstanding awards.”
