JAZMIN ALLMAN AN ALL-ROUND SPORTING TALENT

January 3, 2012

Maffra’s Jazmin Allman has been rewarded for her touch football achievements in the latest round of the Local Sporting Championships Program with a $500 grant.

Jazmin represented Victoria at the School Sport Australia Touch Football Championships at Coff’s Harbour, where her team finished seventh.

She’s also currently vying for State selection in netball and plays for the Maffra Eagles in the Country Basketball League women’s competition.

Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester awarded Jazmin with the $500 grant and has commended the young sports star for her determination to succeed.

“Jazmin has shown enormous dedication and commitment to her sport, having to travel to Melbourne extensively for training and try-outs,” Mr Chester said.

“In the lead-up to the national touch football championships, Jazmin was required in Melbourne every weekend for three months.

“When you add to that the travel requirements of her other netball and basketball commitments there is a significant cost and time commitment for Jazmin and her family.”

The Local Sporting Champions Program assists with the cost of elite level competition for regional sportspeople.

Mr Chester encouraged other Gippsland sports stars to apply to the Local Sporting Champions program.

$500 grants are available to sportspeople aged 12 to 18 years who compete in State or National level championships.

Teams who travel more than 250km to compete at State or National level can apply for $3000 grants.

Anyone interested in applying for the funding can contact Mr Chester on 1300 131 785 or download forms online at www.ausport.gov.au/champions
