LABOR DESERTS ITS HEARTLAND

Almost two out of three unemployed people come from Labor-held electorates.

These Departmentlof Social Security's figures demonstrate the cynical way Labor has deserted its own h artland.

Three years ago L bor told voters that unemployment would come down if they were returned to office.

Since then 466,0 Australians have joined the dole queues - learning the hard way that they 'shouldn' have trusted the Prime Minister.

That's 420 people every day - one every three minutes.

That fact alone sh uld destroy any claim Labor has to be re-elected.

At the time of the last election in March 1990 seasonally adjusted unemployment was 512,600 or 6.1 cent of the workforce.

Now the figure is p78,000 - or more than 11 per cent.

Whatever today's figures are, unemployed people and their families should never forgive Mr Keatin .
