PHILIPPA SMITH REAPPOINTED AS CHAIR OF FSANZ BOARD

The Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, Catherine King, today announced the reappointment of Ms Philippa Smith as Chair of the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Board.

“In agreement with the Legislative and Governance Forum on Food Regulation, I am pleased to reappoint Ms Smith for a further four years,” Ms King said.

“Ms Smith, who was led the FSANZ Board since 2008, has had a very successful first tenure. I am confident that she will continue this success. As a former Commonwealth Ombudsman, CEO of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia and the Chair of the Consumer’s Health Forum - Ms Smith’s expertise in consumer health issues has been invaluable.”

Ms Smith currently serves on the boards of a number of organisations, including the Australian Institute of Health Policy Studies and the Sax Institute.

The FSANZ Board includes a mix of qualified people drawn from specialist areas - such as health, consumer affairs, microbiology, food safety, biotechnology, veterinary science, primary food production, industry, international trade and government.

FSANZ is an independent statutory authority that develops food standards for both Australia and New Zealand. Food standards are developed to protect the public and to provide information to consumers as well as supporting industry.
