INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS: CAPITULATION CONFIRMED

The Government's industrial relations "reform" process has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous.

What was allegedly an attempt to introduce enterprise agreements to the 70 per cent of non-unionised employees who do not not have access to them has become a recruiting program for the trade union movement.

The Minister for Industrial Relations, Laurie Brereton, confirmed the Government's capitulation to the trade union bosses, flagged by the Prime Minister during the Sunday program yesterday.

The Government canvassed ending the union monopoly - allowing employees as well as unions to negotiate an d sign an enterprise agreement. The ACTU's preferred alternative was to extend the monopoly.

The ACTU bosses have prevailed - enterprise agreements are to be available only to unionised workplaces.

The proposal is a farce and should be abandoned - again.
