ANZAC TROOPS CLASH WITH ENEMY

Australian troops moved swiftly to cut off a group of enemy, escaping after a clash with New Zealanders in Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam.

The initial clash was shortly before noon yesterday (April 8) when New Zealanders of V Company 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment/New Zealand (ANZAC) found a bunker system about 24 miles north east of the 1st Australian Task Force base at Nui Dato

The New Zealanders wounded one enemy and captured clothing, food; drugs and weapons.

Australians in B Company of the ANZAC battalion were deployed into the suspected path of the escaping enemy and, less 1-han one and a half hours after the New Zealanders' contact, clashed with an enemy force., Three enemy were killed

and one wounded., There were no A ustralian or New Zealand casualties.

Another VC was killed and one wounded in a clash elsewhere in the Province with elements of 8th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment yesterday,
