Australia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December 1992 is 11.3%. This sadly is only a fraction of an improvement upon the November rate of 11.4%.

Mr Philip Ruddock MP, Liberal Candidate for Berowra, said the December unemployment rate of 11.3% confirms Coalition claims that the recession is deeper and more protracted than anyone had imagined.

"Hornsby district recorded a 0.5% increase in the number of officially unemployed, from 2,810 to 2,825. The lack of job opportunities for these people is heartbreaking", Mr Ruddock said.

"Quite clearly the Keating Government's One Nation statement and Federal Budget have failed dismally. Keating and his mates have not been able to produce any real, effective solutions to the unacceptable levels of unemployment".

The December figure is even more worrying considering that 1992 school leavers are yet to enter the job market. The community should brace themselves for even higher unemployment rates in February, March, and April.

There will never be any substantial improvement under the policies of Keating Government.

The only hope of changing the upward unemployment spiral is to change Government. Prime Minister Keating must give the people of Australia a chance to vote for change NOW.
