and Ethnic Affairs

It was in the early 1970's when Philip Ruddock, as the Federal Member for Dundas first sponsored '. along with Epping YMCA, the Community Youth Support Scheme (CYSS) to assist the unemployed.

Through many structural changes initiated by the Government, the most recent being the Skillshare program, Epping's efforts to assist the unemployed now focus through the Epping Community Training Centre.

Mr Ruddock attended the Annual General Meeting last night and congratulated the Chairperson, Mr Don Badger and the Project Manager, Ms Susie Nelson-Smith on their continuing success. Their Budget now exceeds $250,000.

The Annual Report demonstrated positive training outcomes for more than 50% of participants. Ski ishare has a wide range of training activities, particularly in areas of office skills and computer literacy. It also has horticultural and bar service courses.

Philip Ruddock said the programs were important to lift self esteem of participants. "In a competitive world, better education and higher training is absolutely essential."

Through the committees' project advisory panels, community participation and support is encouraged.

Philip Ruddock congratulated the community groups involved in this sponsorship: Epping RSL and Community Club, Sybiz Pty Ltd, Epping Community Centre, 2SER, Hornsby Council, John Avery, Eastwood Community Aid, the Uniting Church and Meadowbank TAFE.
