Troops must get better support - Greens

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown says the Rudd government must give better back-up to Australian Defence Force personnel in Afghanistan.

"The keeping of four Taliban prisoners, one aged 70, in dog cages overnight, in apparent breach of the Geneva conventions, points to a failure by the government to provide back-up to ensure adequate transfer and detention facilities. Our soldiers are doing a lot to maintain good relations with the people in Afghanistan and such events don't help," Senator Brown said.

"The government must also ensure helicopters for medical evacuations so our injured troops don't face hours of delay before being lifted out for medical aid," Senator Brown said.
