Frank Sartor

NSW Minister for Planning

Joint Media Statement

The Local Government and Planning Ministers’ Council has today agreed to accelerate key national reforms addressing issues including housing affordability and the streamlining of regulations.

The NSW Planning Minister Frank Sartor will chair a Ministerial Subgroup to develop proposals covering a national approach to expanding complying development, performance monitoring and e-planning.

The possibility of developing national principles for development assessment will also be discussed in a bid to ensure greater consistency in planning decisions across the country.

Members of the subgroup will also include representatives from Queensland, Victoria and South Australia, with secretariat services to be provided by the Federal Government.

The Australian Local Government Association will also be invited to participate.

The purpose of this new group is to determine actions, a timeframe and resources to drive forward the priorities of the Ministerial Council.

There is a broad consensus for national reform, now we need to get on and make it happen.

The program, once agreed, will be submitted to the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) for final approval.
