Outgoing Australia Post Managing Director Graeme John has made a great contribution to the corporation and

provided it with strong and decisive leadership Shadow Minister for Broadband Communications and the Digital

Economy Senator Nick Minchin said.

It was confirmed today that Mr John will retire in December having served as Australia Post Managing Director

since 1993. He first joined in 1990 as Chief Manager of National Operations.

“I had the pleasure of working with Graeme for the six years that I was Finance Minister and joint shareholder

Minister for Australia Post and was impressed by his professionalism, his energy, his vision and strength of

character,” Senator Minchin said.

“Australia Post provides services of enormous importance and it is a testimony to Graeme’s leadership that the

corporation has consistently performed at a high standard throughout his tenure.

“Running a Government Business Enterprise is never easy, but Graeme has served three different Governments

with professionalism and has earned the respect of all whose privilege it has been to work with him.

“Graeme has served during a period of major transition and technological change. Australia Post has been

required to adapt and diversify in order to maintain relevance, as its traditional letters business has faced fierce

competition from the likes of email.

“Under Graeme, Australia Post has been able to meet these challenges and continues to meet customer

expectations. He leaves the corporation in good shape.

“I hope Graeme enjoys his remaining time with Australia Post and wish him all the best for the future,” Senator

Minchin said.
