$12,838 grant is music to the ears of Blackwood RSL veterans

Blackwood & District RSL has received a Federal Government grant of $12,838 to help boost entertainment and public address facilities particularly for older members of the club.

I am told that a number of the club’s 800 members have expressed a preference to enjoy club facilities by day, rather than heading out at night.

With the assistance of the Government grant, the club will purchase a new large television plus audio-visual equipment to enable it to provide a range of daytime functions.

These functions will include showing movies, music, entertainment and public speakers.

The purchase of the new equipment will play an important part in encouraging members to get out and about and interact with fellow club members, instead of being isolated at home.

The $12,838 has been made available under the Veteran and Community Grants scheme and was approved by the Minister for Veteran’s Affairs, Dana Vale.

The scheme is designed to fund projects that provide practical support to members of the veteran community.

Projects funded are wide-ranging and include promoting healthier lifestyles, reducing social isolation, providing support for carers and improving access to community care services.

Editors: Dr Southcott will present the grant cheque to the Blackwood and District RSL on Wednesday, 29 October 2003 from 6pm at 1 Brighton Parade, Blackwood.
