Baldwin Welcomes Home Crew from HMAS Stuart from the Middle East Area

The Shadow Minister for Defence Science, Personnel and Assisting Shadow Minister for Defence, Bob Baldwin MP, has welcomed home the crew of HMAS Stuart from operations in the Northern Arabian Gulf at Fleet Base East in Sydney today.

HMAS STUART, under the command of Commander Nick Woodley RAN, was deployed 6 months ago to the Northern Arabian Gulf as part of Operation CATALYST. HMAS STUART was tasked to assist in the protection of Iraq’s offshore assets such as oil platforms, which allows Iraq to generate much needed funds to support reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.

HMAS STUART also assisted with the detection, interception and deterrence of vessels suspected of undertaking illegal activity within Iraqi waters.

“I am proud to be here today representing the Leader of the Opposition the Hon Malcolm Turnbull and the Shadow Defence Minister the Hon David Johnston to welcome home the fine men and women from HMAS Stuart .” said the Shadow Minister

“I also wish to congratulate the Commanding Officer of HMAS Stuart Commander Nick Woodley on his ships’ crew and the outstanding job they have done for the people of Australia.” said Mr Baldwin

“On behalf of a grateful nation, we are immensely proud of these men and women, and our gratitude is extended especially to their families who loaned their sons & daughters to the people of Australia to assist with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Iraq.” said Mr Baldwin
