Notes on the amendment

Amendment - long title

The long title of the Bill as introduced included a broad reference to the method of appointment of the President.  This distinguished the model being put to referendum from other republican models.  The revised long title retains this feature but also provides more detail about the effect of the Bill if approved at the referendum.  It presents clearly and simply the essential purpose and outcome of the referendum proposal.  In doing so, it takes account of the recommendation of the Joint Select Committee on the Republic Referendum.
