NOTES ON AMENDED CLAUSES
Amendment 1 and 2 - Schedule 1, item 1, page 5 (lines 1 and 2) and Schedule 1, item 1, page 7 (line 2), omit “social or economic”
1. These amendments clarify that the Environment Minister can only make an interim or final declaration in respect of commercial fishing activity if the particular activity has uncertain environmental impacts.
2. ‘Social’ and ‘economic’ considerations have been removed from the Bill to provide greater certainty as to what circumstances the Environment Minister and the Fisheries Minister can take into account in determining when an interim and final declaration should be made.
