PRIVACY AMENDMENT BILL 2003
OUTLINE
These Government amendments add an additional part to Schedule 1 of the Bill to provide the Privacy Commissioner with an additional function. They enable the Privacy Commissioner to audit acts and practices of Commonwealth agencies in relation to personal information specified in the Regulations. This function is additional to the Privacy Commissioner’s existing function of auditing whether records are maintained by Commonwealth agencies in accordance with the Information Privacy Principles.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT
These amendments are budget neutral .
NOTES ON CLAUSES
Amendment 1 provides the Privacy Commissioner with an additional function of auditing particular acts and practices of Commonwealth agencies in relation to personal information specified in the Regulations.
Amendment 2 enables reports on such audits to be provided to the Minister.
