A Bill for an Act to amend the Special Broadcasting Service Act 1991 , and for related purposes
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
This Act may be cited as the Special Broadcasting Service Amendment (Natural Program Breaks and Disruptive Advertising) Act 2012 .
(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.
The objects of this Act are to:
(a) define natural program break in consideration of the examples given to the Parliament in 1991; and
(b) wind down the number of in-program breaks while providing an option for the SBS to replace in-program advertising with intra-program advertising, while having regard to the financial position of SBS; and
(c) in the longer term, limit in-program breaks to live or delayed broadcasts of sports events on SBS television.
