A Bill for an Act to amend laws, and deal with transitional matters, in connection with the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory Act 2011 , and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1   Short title

                   This Act may be cited as the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Act 2011 .

2   Commencement

             (1)  Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

The day this Act receives the Royal Assent.

 

2.  Schedules 1 to 5

At the same time as section 3 of the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory Act 2011 commences.

 

Note:          This table relates only to the provisions of this Act as originally enacted. It will not be amended to deal with any later amendments of this Act.

             (2)  Any information in column 3 of the table is not part of this Act. Information may be inserted in this column, or information in it may be edited, in any published version of this Act.

3   Schedule(s)

                   Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

4   Definitions

             (1)  In this Act:

commencement means the day Schedules 1 to 5 of this Act commence.

new Act means the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory Act 2011 .

old Act means the Northern Territory National Emergency Response Act 2007 as in force immediately before commencement.

relevant time means:

                     (a)  if, under subsection (3), the Minister determines a day that is on or after commencement but before 17 August 2012—the beginning of that day; or

                     (b)  otherwise—the end of 17 August 2012.

             (2)  In this Act, expressions that are defined in the new Act have the same meanings as they have in that Act.

             (3)  The Minister may, by legislative instrument, determine a day for the purposes of the definition of relevant time in subsection (1).
