Senator BESSELL (TASMANIA) - My question which is directed to the Minister representing the Treasurer refers to the proposed capital gains tax. Has consideration been given to whether property owners whose land is resumed by either a State or Federal government and who are in effect forced to dispose of their property in this way will be required to pay capital gains tax in this situation when it may well be that they would not have decided to dispose of their property at that particular point of time?

Senator WRIEDT -As I have indicated earlier, no final decisions have been made on the details of the capital gains tax that was announced in the Budget. I think it is proper that the question be forwarded to the Treasurer so that a reply can be provided.
