Senator Withers asked the Minister representing the Minister for Health, upon notice:

Have untrained staff carried out fumigations, using methyl bromide, at the Woodman Point Quarantine Station in Western Australia.


Senator Wheeldon - The Minister for Health has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

No. Fumigations using methyl bromide are carried out at the Woodman Point Quarantine Station for animal and plant quarantine purposes. The staff engaged in methyl bromide fumigations are trained and have been performing this work for many years.
