Senator Missen (VICTORIA) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Education, upon notice:

(   1 ) Is the Minister aware of the concern of academics at the continuing delay in the establishment of an academic salaries tribunal as proposed by Mr Justice Campbell in the Report 'Inquiry into Academic Salaries', and at the disadvantage they are suffering in this period of high and rising inflation.

(2)   When does the Minister propose to introduce legislation on this subject.


Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for the Media) - The Minister for Education has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1)   and (2) I am aware of the concern of academics that the Academic Salaries Tribunal should be established as soon as possible. The legislation to establish the Tribunal was introduced by the Special Minister of State on 19 September 1974.
