Senator WITHERS (Western AustraliaLeader of the Opposition) - The Opposition agrees with the amendment as put down by Senator Douglas McClelland. It is not the perfect solution but I think it is a reasonable, sensible compromise arrived at between the 2 Houses to get the Committee off the ground. I still think that there was some merit in our suggestion that there should be an equal number from both Houses, but the main thing is that the Senate is properly represented and is not out of balance as it could have been before. It just shows that with a huie bit of tolerance from both sides and a little bit of give and take we can achieve an awful lot in the chamber.

Amendment (Senator Douglas McClelland's) agreed to.

Amendment (Senator Withers'), as amended, agreed to.

Original question, as amended, resolved in the affirmative.
