Senator Sir KENNETH ANDERSON -Has the Minister representing the Minister for Education seen a report that the New South Wales Teachers Federation included in its journal recently a lift-out tabloid set of stories which have been described as containing perversion, 4-letter words and lavatory wall stories? Indeed, it is also reported that in certain circumstances these tabloid stories are being used in part of the curricula of higher school students. Is the New South Wales Teachers Federation, as reported, getting certain financial aid from the Literature Board, which is a Commonwealth authority? If it is, will the Minister have examined the conditions under which Commonwealth money is granted to the New South Wales Teachers Federation for that purpose?

Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister for the Media) - I have not seen the report to which the honourable senator has referred. As to the second portion of his question, I am unaware whether the Literature Board is subsidising in any way the publication concerned. I would think that aspect of the question is more the responsibility of the Prime Minister because probably that type of grant would come within the jurisdiction of the Australian Council for the Arts. I will have the question referred to the appropriate Ministers and obtain the relevant information for the honourable senator.
