Senator Jessop M y question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Transport. Can he say whether the Government has received a report regarding the proposed amalgamation of Commonwealth and State rural railways, as foreshadowed earlier in the year? If he has not received that report, can he say when it is expected? In addition, can he say whether a decision has been made regarding the construction of the standard gauge railway line from Adelaide to Port Pirie and, if it has, when work on the line is likely to commence?

Senator CAVANAGH I think that the honourable senator had better put this question on notice. I know that there have been discussions, especially between South Australia and the Commonwealth, on the question of taking over railways. To my knowledge, no firm decision has been made. I thought that decisions on the railway between Adelaide and Port Pirie had been taken earlier in the history of this Government, but I may be wrong on that. I suggest that the honourable senator put the question on notice and he will get a reply.
