Senator LILLICO (TASMANIA) - I ask the Minister representing the Minister for Immigration, or any other Minister who is responsible for this matter, the following question: Is any Australian citizen who is a civil servant prohibited from visiting Taiwan in a private capacity? If so, how is he so prohibited, and what is the reason for this abrogation of human rights?

Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) -This question was addressed to me in my capacity as Minister representing the Minister for Immigration. I am given to understand- this is subject to correction- that no Australian private citizen is prevented by the Australian Government from visiting Taiwan. But, in any event, I will refer the question to my colleague the Minister for Immigration in another place in order to obtain the correct answer for the honourable senator.
