Senator MURPHY (New South WalesLeader of the Government in the Senate) - Pursuant to contingent notice of motion, I move:

That standing order 242 be suspended to enable the third reading of the Constitution Alteration (Simultaneous Elections) Bill, the Constitution Alteration (Democratic Elections) Bill and the Constitution Alteration (Local Government Bodies) Bill to be passed in each case without a call of the Senate.

Motion (by Senator Withers) proposed:

That the debate be now adjourned.

Senator Murphy - I have no objection to the debates being adjourned, but if for some reason the motion were not acceded to, the matter would have to stand over for 2 1 days.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
