Senator WILLESEE (WESTERN AUSTRALIA) - I ask the Minister representing the Minister for Foreign Affairs whether the Government has taken any interest in the happenings in the Philippines. If so. is it possible to make a statement to the Senate? In that statement will the Minister give any information on the position of Senator Benigno Aquino who would have been the chief contender for the presidency when that election was held?


Senator WRIGHT (TASMANIA) (Minister for Works) - Yes, of course the Government has been following closely the recent events in the Philippines. The question in relation to making a statement I shall refer to the Minister for his personal decision. I have taken note of the particular point to which the honourable senator referred.
