Senator O'BYRNE - My question is addressed to the Minister representing the Minister for Trade and Industry. Can the Minister inform the Senate what steps, if any, have been taken to establish a world trade centre in Australia - in Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne?

Senator COTTON - There have been discussions with the Government of New South Wales, I believe, about establishing a world trade centre in Sydney. 1 cannot tell the honourable senator what the position of those discussions is, whether any proposals have been agreed to or whether the discussions have been suspended. The problem has always been one of choosing which of the Australian cities is the most logical location for a trade centre. All I can do about the question is to ask the Minister responsible to advise me of any plan that has been made or of the present state of knowledge of the matter.
