Senator DEVITT (TASMANIA) - My question is directed to the Acting Leader of the Government in the Senate in his capacity as Minister representing the Prime Minister. I ask: Is he aware of the possibility of a serious worsening of the employment situation in Tasmania following the expenditure of special federal grants provided to help the unemployment situation in that State? Has the Government had urgent representations from the Tasmanian Premier, Mr Reece, requesting further immediate financial help towards preventing a worsening of the position? Will the. Government treat such a request with the utmost sympathy and act quickly to prevent a return to the situation which prevailed immediately prior to the allocation of the last unemployment grant?

Senator DRAKE-BROCKMAN - Mr

Reece has only recently come into office. I would have to check with the Prime Minister's Department as to whether he has made such a submission. Therefore, I ask the honourable senator to put his question on notice.
