Senator McLAREN (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) - I direct a question to the Attorney-General who, on 22nd February, advised me that an officer of his Department was going to the Northern Territory to make an on-the-spot investigation of the necessity for the appointment of an extra magistrate. Has this officer completed his investigation? If so, what are his recommendations?

Senator GREENWOOD - An officer of my Department has been to the Northern Territory. Extensive investigations into a number of matters affecting the courts in the Northern Territory were carried out. Some of those matters have been the subject of report to me. 1 hope in due course to make a statement.
